Or did you just do it? Haha Most people start band in middle school. I joined orchestra in middle school. I played the violin in 6th and 7th grade. I really liked it a first. In the middle of 7th grade, I started to get tired of the way my teacher taught, and it got so bad that I quit after that year (there were also other reasons, but I can’t remember). The next year, in 8th grade, I started playing piano. I took private lessons with the piano player at my church as my teacher. I was progressing really well at first. Then, when it came time to do my 9th grade scheduling, I chose photography as my elective. I was good with that for a while, then I learned that I would have to buy my own camera and realized it just wasn’t worth it. So I thought about another elective I should take. Eventually, I decided that I would take a band class and play the piano. So I did. That was my first year in a band class. At first, I absolutely hated it. The music was way too hard for me, I was certain the other piano player hated me (she didn’t. We’re friends now), and I didn’t know anyone but everyone seemed to know each other so I just felt out of place. I began to open up to everyone in January and became friends with quite a few people. Then I started to like band more and more. Then my band friends convinced me to join marching band and play in the pit. This year, 10th grade, I quit the jazz band. I loved it, but the music was still way too hard for me and I just felt like I was slowing everyone down. But I was still in marching band and completely fell in love with it. Next year, I’m taking symphonic band and playing percussion and marching band in pit. Well, there’s my ridiculously long story.
